Soreness not hindering Saltalamacchia

CHICAGO -- Triple-A Oklahoma City catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia has had some lower back soreness lately. But it has not impacted his throwing, and the reports continue to be good out of Oklahoma City.

Outfielder Endy Chavez is still in extended spring training, trying to come back from knee surgery from a year ago. Chavez, a veteran of 827 Major League games who signed a Minor League contract at the beginning of Spring Training, hasn't played in a big league game since tearing his ACL in the right knee on June 19 last year. Chavez has had difficulty playing in back-to-back extended spring training games without coming down with soreness in his knee.

Catcher Toby Hall, another veteran coming back from surgery, is also still in extended spring training and not close to being an option at the Major League level. Hall is still building strength in his surgically repaired right shoulder and is not yet playing full games behind the plate.
