Vlad to see time in outfield during Interleague

ARLINGTON -- Rangers slugger Vladimir Guerrero will play the outfield during Interleague games being played in National League cities.

Manager Ron Washington said he just won't start him in the field in consecutive games.

"I don't want him to get hurt," Washington said. "I'll play him in the outfield one day and pinch-hit him the next day."

The Rangers play nine consecutive games in National League parks, where they don't use the designated hitter. The Rangers open a three-game series against the Brewers on Friday in Milwaukee, they play three against the Marlins beginning Tuesday in Florida, then they have three in Houston against the Astros.

"I'm going to try and find a way to get him two starts in every one of those series," Washington said.

That would mean Friday and Sunday in Milwaukee, and Tuesday and Thursday in Florida. Houston is the tricky part without using him on consecutive days in the outfield. Guerrero has started four games in the outfield to this point in the season. He entered Tuesday's game hitting .333 with 12 home runs and 47 RBIs on the season.
