Cruz hoping to be back in a week

ARLINGTON -- Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, sidelined with a left hamstring injury, is eligible to come off the disabled list on Sunday. That's not going to happen, but Cruz is hoping to go on medical rehabilitation assignment this weekend and be activated on Tuesday when the Rangers open a three-game series with the Marlins in Florida.

"I'm running with no pain," Cruz said. "I ran [Monday] with no pain. I did 20 sprints, shagged balls in the outfield and threw to the bases with no pain. It's feeling good."

The Rangers still want to put Cruz through a few more tests, including running the bases, before making a decision on when he'll be sent to the Minors on rehab assignment.
