Bench coach Moore happy to see son drafted

ARLINGTON -- Rangers bench coach Jackie Moore couldn't have been more excited to see his son drafted by the club on Wednesday.

Johnathon Moore, a catcher from Houston-Baptist University, was taken by the Rangers in the 45th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

"I had the same dream 53 years ago and had the opportunity to play baseball," Moore said. "It's been all my life, it's what I love to do. He's been presented with the same opportunity, and I hope things work out for him. They sure worked out for Dad."

The younger Moore had a solid season behind the plate for the Huskies, batting .355 with six home runs and 51 RBIs.

"The bottom line is he has some ability. He can play," Jackie Moore said. "He has a big heart. ... He grew up in a baseball life and that's what he wants to do. I think with a lot of hard work and dedication and his ability, good things will happen for him."

Moore hopes that his son is able to use the baseball bloodlines he carries into a successful professional career.
