ARLINGTON -- The Rangers will open the 2011 season at home on Friday, April 1, against the Boston Red Sox at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
The Red Sox will be in town for the first of two visits to Arlington in 2011, according to the Rangers' schedule for next season, which was released on Tuesday. Major League Baseball will open the 2011 season on Thursday and Friday rather than Sunday/Monday as it has been doing recently.
The Red Sox will also be in town Aug. 23-25. The New York Yankees will make one trip to Arlington and that will be on the weekend of May 6-8.
The Rangers' Interleague schedule calls for the Mets and the Marlins to visit Arlington. The Rangers will also play in Atlanta and Philadelphia, while hosting the Astros for their annual home-and-home battle for the Silver Boot.
The Astros will be in Arlington on June 20-22, the Mets on June 24-26 and the Marlins on July 1-3. Both the Mets and the Marlins have played in Arlington just once before and that was in 2003.
The Rangers will be in Philadelphia on May 20-22 for only their second visit ever to Citizens Bank Park. They were there in 2005. The Rangers were last in Atlanta in '03 and will return there on June 17-19. They are in Houston on June 28-30.
The Rangers will also be home on the Fourth of July, when they host the Baltimore Orioles.
The opening homestand has both the Red Sox and the Seattle Mariners on April 4-6. The Rangers also close their home schedule against the Mariners on Sept. 23-25. They close out the 2011 season against the Angels on Sept. 26-28.
