Hamilton earns AL Players Choice honor

|
Josh Hamilton's season credentials speak for themselves, and his American League colleagues have taken notice, giving the Rangers slugger the Players Choice Award as 2010 AL Outstanding Player.

The outfielder, whose team kicks off the 106th World Series on Wednesday night, joined National League winner Carlos Gonzalez as this year's honorees. It's Hamilton's second career Players Choice Award, winning the same honor in 2008.

Statistically, Hamilton finished at or near the top in a number of offensive categories this season. The 29-year-old led all Major Leaguers in batting average (.359) and slugging percentage this season (.633) -- both of which were career bests. The three-time All-Star finished in the top five in the AL in on-base percentage (.411), total bases (328), homers (32) and extra base hits (75).

Despite missing 29 games this season with injury, Hamilton managed to drive in 100 runs in leading Texas to the AL West title. Hamilton is also a nominee for the 2010 Player of the Year Award alongside Gonzalez and the Reds' Joey Votto. That award will be announced on Friday on ESPN's Mike & Mike Show.
