Texas picked up slugger Carlos Lee, young outfielder Nelson Cruz, veteran Matt Stairs and pitcher Kip Wells before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline to bolster the roster for the final two months, and the group will be introduced to the country as TWIB highlights the Texas Rangers on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET/PT (11:30 CT) on FOX.
The Rangers were 58-58 and trailed American League West Division leader Oakland by five games prior to Friday night's game.
They returned from a 10-game road trip on a high note, blasting the A's, 14-0, on Sunday to prevent a series sweep. Lee hit his first home run as a Ranger, his 29th of the season, in the victory.
"I am happy to be in Texas," Lee said. "This is a good ballclub, and the division is right there. If we can get on a roll here, we can pick up some games."
Stairs is hitting .280 (7-for-25) since moving up from the last-place Kansas City Royals, Wells came over from the last-place Pittsburgh Pirates and won his first start with a five-inning effort against the Minnesota Twins and Cruz, 26, has more Major League at bats since July 31 than he had previously in his entire career.
"I don't feel like I've brought age to this team," said the 38-year-old Stairs, who is mostly being used as a designated hitter. "I feel like they have brought youth to me."
