Borbon enters spring as starter in center
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Julio Borbon was almost forgotten in the playoffs last year, and started just one game. He won't be forgotten this spring.

Manager Ron Washington said that Borbon comes into Spring Training as the starting center fielder, with Josh Hamilton moving to left. Nelson Cruz remains in right, and David Murphy resumes his role as the fourth outfielder.

During the playoffs, Murphy and Jeff Francoeur platooned as the Rangers' third outfielder, playing alongside Hamilton and Cruz.

"We want to give Borbon a chance to win the center field job again," Washington said. "Murphy will still be a part of it. He will get his at-bats."

Francoeur was a right-handed hitter, who was acquired at the end of August to give the Rangers some balance. Cruz is a right-handed hitter -- but Murphy, Hamilton and Borbon are all left-handed.

Michael Young is also a right-handed hitter, but Washington said there are no plans for him to add outfield to his possible list of duties. Washington said if he needs an extra outfielder, he can use Mitch Moreland out there. Moreland has played both first and outfield in the Minor Leagues.

"We just want Michael to get familiar around first base," Washington said. "We want to get him familiar around second base, and let him play."
