ARLINGTON -- The Rangers announced the signing of free-agent outfielder Frank Catalanotto to a three-year contract worth $13 million -- plus a club option for a fourth year -- at a Tuesday press conference.
Catalanotto hit .300 with a .376 on-base percentage for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2006. In 128 games and 437 at-bats, Catalanotto scored 56 runs with 36 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 56 RBIs.
Catalanotto played for the Rangers from 2000-2002. He has played second base for them, but has played almost exclusively in left field and designated hitter for the Blue Jays over the past four years.
Catalanotto could be the Rangers leading option as a leadoff hitter if they can't re-sign center fielder Gary Matthews Jr.
