Rangers at the plate: Sammy Sosa homered, his first of Spring Training, to lead off the second inning. Sosa also started in right field, the first time this spring he played in the field. ... Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer in the three-run fifth.

Royals at the plate: Alex Gordon, the second overall pick in the 2005 draft, singled in the second for his first Spring Training hit in his seventh at-bat. ... Angel Berroa singled but was picked off first base.

Rangers on the mound: Brandon McCarthy was impressive in his debut, working two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out four. ... Bruce Chen pitched two flawless innings and struck out one.

Royals on the mound: Luke Hudson walked Kenny Lofton to lead off the game and had a wild pitch and a single, but got out of the inning without a run by inducing Michael Young to ground into a double play. Hudson gave up a run, a Sosa homer, in three innings. He struck out two. ... Zack Greinke gave up three runs in two innings on four hits, including a home run. ... Octavio Dotel pitched a scoreless seventh inning. He allowed one hit and struck out one.

Cactus League records: Rangers 2-1; Royals 1-3

Up next: Royals left-hander Jorge De La Rosa will start on Monday against the Padres, a 2:05 p.m. CT start at Surprise Stadium. Jake Peavy will start for the Padres. Right-hander Robinson Tejeda will be the Rangers starter against the Rockies at Tucson at 2:05 p.m. CT. Ubaldo Jimenez will be the Colorado starter.
