Triple-A Oklahoma pitcher John Rheinecker was pulled from his start Monday in Oklahoma City in case Texas starter Vicente Padilla is unable to pitch Tuesday night against Detroit.
Padilla has arm irritation, which could force him out of the lineup. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he thinks Padilla will be fine, and Rheinecker was pulled as a precaution.
Since he was added to the Oklahoma roster, Rheinecker has thrown 11 scoreless innings over two starts since returning from the disabled list with a bad back.
Padilla is 1-4 with a 9.00 ERA in his last five starts, and the Rangers are 2-10 in his starts this season. He is 2-3 with a 3.94 ERA in five starts in Arlington this year.
