Perez, Profar represent Texas in Futures Game
ARLINGTON -- Rangers Minor League pitcher Martin Perez and infielder Jurickson Profar have been selected to play in the 13th annual XM All-Star Futures Game on July 10 in Phoenix.

Perez, 20, has gone 4-2 with a 3.28 ERA in 15 starts for Double-A Frisco. He is the No. 1-ranked prospect in the Rangers' farm system by MLB.com and 17th overall.

Profar, 18, is batting .269 with 18 doubles, five triples, six home runs and 26 RBIs in 55 games with Class A Hickory. He is the No. 3-ranked prospect in the Rangers' system and 48th overall by MLB.com.

Both players will play for the World team. Profar will be the youngest player on either squad at the game and Perez will be the fourth-youngest pitcher in the exhibition.

"It is a true honor for Martin and Jurickson to be selected to participate in the Futures Game," Rangers assistant general manager Thad Levine said. "As the youngest pitcher in the Texas League, Martin continues to make great developmental strides as he further establishes himself as one of Texas' best pitching prospects. In his first year in a full-season Minor League team and the youngest player in the South Atlantic League, Jurickson has seamlessly transitioned and has emerged as one of Hickory's team leaders and most productive, complete players. "

The Futures Game can be seen live on MLB.TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on MLB.com's Gameday on Taco Bell All-Star Sunday, July 10, at 5 p.m. CT. Major League Baseball, along with with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America, USA Baseball and the 30 Major League Baseball clubs, selected the 25-man rosters for each club. Each organization is represented, and the World Team features players from 12 countries and territories. Players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to participate.

Current Rangers who have played in the Futures Game include shortstop Elvis Andrus, catcher Taylor Teagarden, pitcher Eric Hurley, reliever Neftali Feliz, infielder Andres Blanco and outfielders Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz.

Worth noting:
• Right-handed pitcher Jerad Eickhoff, the club's 15th-round selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Olney (Ill.) Central College, has agreed to terms. Eickhoff was 10-4 with a 1.90 ERA as a sophomore for the Blue Knights, earning Great Rivers Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors.

• Darren O'Day, who has been sidelined for two months with a torn labrum in his left hip, pitched a scoreless inning for Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. His next outing is scheduled for Saturday with Round Rock.

• Tommy Hunter, on the disabled list since the end of Spring Training with a strained right groin, will make a spot start on Friday for Round Rock. He is scheduled for three to four innings, but the plan is still to see how he does as a reliever.
