Youngs establish charitable foundation

ARLINGTON -- On Monday, Michael Young and his wife, Cristina Barbosa, announced the establishment of Young's new charity, the Michael Young Family Foundation.

Despite being active in community work, Young had never had his own foundation, instead giving his time to existing charities.

"Starting this foundation is something Michael and I have been talking about for years," Barbosa said. "The mission of this foundation is to improve children's health. Whether it's physical, social, mental or educational, it gives us greater flexibility to impact children's lives on a broader scale."

The first event for the foundation will be the Celebrity BaseBOWL Tournament, which will take place after the Rangers game on Sept. 11 at 300 Dallas Bowling Lanes.

"Cristina and I couldn't be more excited about creating our own foundation," Young said. "We've always felt it's important to give back to the community, and now we have the ability to take it to the next level, starting with our bowling tournament."

The Young family's charitable endeavors includes Wipe Out Kids Cancer Ambassador Program and the Young Heroes Scholarship Program.
