ANAHEIM -- The Rangers acquired five players from the Braves for Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay. Only one of the five has not made it to the big leagues. That could change in September when rosters expand. Club officials are starting to consider who they should add as September callups and left-handed reliever Beau Jones is getting some consideration. He is not on the 40-man roster, but he is a left-handed reliever, and the Rangers have only one at the big league level in Darren Oliver. Jones has a 3.38 ERA at Triple-A Round Rock, including a 2.08 ERA in his last 10 outings. Left-handed hitters are batting .224 off him.
"Beau has performed well," general manager Jon Daniels said. "I wouldn't rule it out." When the rosters expand in September, teams in contention usually look for players who can help in supporting roles: pinch-hitters, speed off the bench and extra arms in the bullpen. Left-handed relievers are always coveted.
