ANAHEIM -- Neftali Feliz recorded his 24th save with a scoreless ninth in the Rangers' 4-3 victory over the Angels on Wednesday. Feliz has now thrown 5 1/3 scoreless innings since his last blown save against the Indians on Aug. 6. Last month manager Ron Washington said he wanted Feliz to show more fire and urgency in his job. Washington said Thursday that he has seen that lately from his closer. "This is the part of the year where championship teams and winning teams step up," Washington said. "He is stepping up. Everything from this point on, this is it and he's got it going on right now. I see a guy who knows what is at stake and he's focused on it."
A few days after Washington said Feliz needed more fire, the Rangers acquired relievers Koji Uehara from the Orioles and Mike Adams from the Padres. Both have the ability to close, but Washington said he has already told Feliz not to worry about that. "I've already told him his job is secure," Washington said. "He's got no business thinking about that."
