BOSTON -- Adrian Beltre was 1-for-4 with two RBIs on Friday night in his second game back off the disabled list. He got an extra at-bat in the eighth after manager Ron Washington started substituting for other starters.
Beltre, who missed five weeks with a strained left hamstring, asked for the extra at-bat. He is 2-for-8 in two games since coming off the DL, but the slugger is still not running full speed on the bases.
"I'm fine with that. We need him for the rest of the year," manager Ron Washington said. "What I want him to do is stay healthy. He is not going to get crazy. If he pulls that thing again, the next time we'll see him is in Spring Training."
If Beltre is on base late in the game and the Rangers need his run, Washington said he'll likely use a pinch-runner and figure out what to do defensively after that.
