"The big thing is just starting in general," Feldman said. "I love starting, but it will be fun pitching in front of family and friends."
This is sooner than expected. Feldman has been a reliever for the Rangers ever since he was drafted until he was moved to the rotation at the end of Spring Training. The idea was for him to make the transition from pitching for Double-A Frisco. But he has been pressed into big league service because of the many injuries to the Rangers pitching staff.
"Obviously, Minor League hitters are better than Major League hitters, but as long as I stick to my plan and execute my pitches, it shouldn't be too different," Feldman said. "In either place, if you make pitches, you should get guys out."
TEX: RHP Scott Feldman (0-0, 6.00 ERA)
Feldman threw 69 pitches over four innings Tuesday against Kansas City in relief of the injured Jason Jennings. He will take over Jennings' spot in the rotation beginning with this game. Feldman has made five career relief appearances against Oakland, posting a 0-0 record and 1.50 ERA. He has allowed the Athletics one run on two hits and nine walks over six career innings.
OAK: LHP Greg Smith (2-1, 2.73 ERA)
Smith was one of six players acquired from the Diamondbacks for Dan Haren, and so far Smith's been a good addition. Four of his five outings have resulted in quality starts. He pitched his first complete game and suffered his first loss in his last outing against the Angels, allowing two runs in eight innings in a 2-0 loss on Tuesday. Opponents are hitting just .209 off him.
With a hit Saturday night, Milton Bradley has hit safely in 22 of his last 24 games and is batting .348 (31-for-89) during this span. The outfielder has reached base safely in 25 of his 26 games this season. ... Closer C.J. Wilson will be available Sunday after Joaquin Benoit earned the save on Saturday. Wilson had pitched in three straight games before Saturday. ... Ian Kinsler is expected to return to the lineup Sunday after being scratched from Saturday's game because of a sore hamstring.
