The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has signed left-handed pitcher Mitch Stetter and right-handed pitcher Sean Green to minor league contracts with invitations to major league spring training.
Stetter, 31, missed most of the last season on the disabled list with left hip labral irritation. He was on Milwaukee's Opening Day roster and made 16 appearances for the Brewers before he was placed on the disabled list on May 17 (retroactive to May 15). Stetter also had 6 outings on a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment in July, but was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on July 30 and did not pitch the rest of the year.
Stetter has gone 8-2 with a 4.08 ERA (39 ER/86.0 IP) over 132 career appearances in the majors, all with Milwaukee. Opposing left-handed batters have hit .194 (33-170) against Stetter in his big league career. He was originally selected by the Brewers in the 16th round of the 2003 June draft.
Green, 32, was on Milwaukee's 2011 Opening Day roster, going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA (7 ER/11.2 IP) in 14 relief appearances. He was designated for assignment on May 17 and spent the rest of the year with Nashville (AAA), compiling a 3.91 ERA (20 ER/46.0 IP) in 33 relief appearances at Triple-A. Green had a 1.37 ERA (3 ER/19.2 IP) and 4 saves over 15 appearances with Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
Originally drafted by Colorado, Green has gone 10-12 with a 4.41 ERA (132 ER/269.2 IP) over 264 appearances in the majors with Seattle (2006-08), New York-NL (2009-10), and Milwaukee (2011).
With these signings, and the addition of Brad Hawpe on Friday, the Rangers now have 16 non-roster invitees to major league spring training. There are currently 39 players on the club's 40-man roster.
