Mitch Moreland, who had offseason wrist surgery, showed the progress he's made from that by hitting his first home run of the spring. Moreland, after grounding out in the second inning, crushed a 2-0 pitch from Sean O'Sullivan over the Rangers' bullpen in right field.Royals starter Luis Mendoza, trying to win a spot in the rotation, looked sharp pitching against his former team. He retired six of eight hitters, allowing only a walk and a ground single. Four of his six outs came on grounders. Vin Mazzaro followed Mendoza with two scoreless innings and Scott Feldman did the same for the Rangers pitching behind Lewis. Royals up next: The Royals' top winner of the last two seasons, left-hander Bruce Chen, will make his first spring start against the Rangers in Surprise at 2:05 p.m. CT. He's scheduled to work two innings, followed by left-handers Mike Montgomery and Chris Dwyer, also due to go two innings each. Chen won 12 games in both 2010 and 2011.
Rangers up next: Left-hander Derek Holland starts for the Rangers and Alexi Ogando will follow him to the mound against the Royals at 2:05 p.m. CT in Surprise. They are both scheduled to pitch two innings each. Ogando is being stretched out as a starter this spring but will likely be in the bullpen to start the season. A webcast will be carried on www.texasrangers.com.
