Wash: Darvish wanted to pitch after delay
ARLINGTON -- The Rangers did have an option if they had decided not to send Yu Darvish back out to the mound after Friday's one-hour, 56-minute rain delay. Manager Ron Washington said they could have gone with Scott Feldman after the delay and pushed back Darvish until Monday against the Royals.

But that was never a serious consideration, Washington said. Darvish was adamant about pitching, and he ended up getting the win in the Rangers' 10-3 victory.

"It shows that he has heart," Washington said. "He's a winner. He's for real. All this guy has ever done is win. I know it was in Japan, but winning is all he has ever known. That's what he was all about last night.

"He wasn't going to be denied. He wanted to do his job. We had a lot of discussions, but he was adamant about taking the ball. You could tell by the way he was talking that he was pitching. The guy wanted to pitch, and he did."
