Hamilton leaves team to be with wife

BOSTON -- Josh Hamilton is returning to Texas to be with his wife, Katie, who is close to giving birth to the couple's third child. Hamilton will miss the Rangers' final game with the Red Sox on Thursday at Fenway Park.

Hamilton left Wednesday's game after batting in the sixth inning because he was hoping to catch a flight to Dallas. There were none available, and a private jet service wanted $41,000.

He is booked on a 6 a.m. ET flight to Dallas on Thursday.

"I hope she can hold on, because I would like to be there," Hamilton said. "You don't realize it's happening until you're there."

The Hamiltons have two daughters: Julia, 7, and Sierra, who will be 3 later this month, and are expecting a third daughter as well.

Hamilton was 0-for-3 in his final game as a father of two and struck out against Jon Lester in his final at-bat.

"Tell Lester I wasn't thinking about him in that last at-bat," he said.
