ARLINGTON -- Third baseman Adrian Beltre has been named Rangers Player of the Year in voting by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
Beltre won the award for the first time after hitting .321 with 95 runs, 36 home runs and 102 RBIs for the Rangers this past season. He also played superb defense at third base, which earned him a fourth Gold Glove Award.
He was the fifth Rangers player in club history and the first since Alex Rodriguez in 2001 to finish with at least a .315 batting average, 95 runs, 35 home runs and 100 RBIs. The only two other players to accomplish that in 2012 were Miguel Cabrera with the Tigers and Ryan Braun with the Brewers. He was in the top 10 in the American League in all four categories.
Beltre will be honored at the Dr Pepper Awards Show that will take place on Jan. 11 at the Arlington Convention Center. The show will be a part of the 2013 Texas Rangers Fan Fest, which will be held Jan 11-12 at the Convention Center.
