Cowboy Santas toy drive

Arlington, TX – The Texas Rangers announced today details of the team’s participation in the 2012 Cowboy Santas Toy Drive, the second consecutive year in which the organization has been involved in the holiday initiative.

Rangers left-handed pitcher Derek Holland will once again serve as the Honorary Spokesperson for the program, which provides toys to children from low-income Tarrant County families during the holiday season.

“The Texas Rangers are proud to participate in the 2012 Cowboy Santas Toy Drive,” commented Rangers CEO and President Nolan Ryan. “This is a most worthwhile endeavor that will help make the holidays brighter for a number of Tarrant County youngsters.”

The Cowboy Santas Toy Drive results in the collection of thousands of new, unwrapped toys that are distributed to needy children in Tarrant County. Beginning today and continuing through Thursday, December 13, individuals can drop off new unwrapped toys or books at either the Texas Rangers Grand Slam Gift Shop at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Rangers Fort Worth Team Shop at 316 Main St., or the Rangers Dallas Team Shop at 2222 McKinney Ave., Suite 140 between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Items may also be dropped off at all Fort Worth Police and Fire Departments and Community Centers and at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. 

On Tuesday, December 11 from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m., the Rangers will sponsor a Cowboy Santas Toy Drive Event at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington in the center field Vandergriff Plaza area. Derek Holland as well as other current and former Rangers players will be on hand to sign autographs during this event. Local groups will perform holiday songs, holiday movies will be shown on the video screen, the Rangers KidsZone will be open, and drink and food specials will be available at Captain Morgan Club. Donations of new unwrapped toys and books will be greatly encouraged.

Fans attending the December 11 event may Park in Lot B and enter Rangers Ballpark in Arlington through the Majestic Grand Slam Gift Shop.

In addition, the Rangers and CBS 11/TXA21 will hold a Cowboy Santas Toy Drive Event near the Christmas tree at Main and 3rd Streets in downtown Fort Worth’s Sundance Square on Thursday, December 13 from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. Several current and former Rangers players will also be on hand to sign autographs during this event.

Sponsors for the 2012 Cowboy Santas include the Texas Rangers Foundation, CBS11/TXA21, Fox Sports Southwest, ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM, ESPN DePortes 1540 AM, and Sportservice.

More About Cowboy Santas:

The Cowboy Santas Program Inc. is a non-profit program that provides toys to children from low-income Tarrant County families, during the holiday season.  The program began in 1981 at several Fort Worth Community Centers, and over the last two decades, the program has grown to cover all of Tarrant County.  Cowboy Santas Program is recognized by the Internal Revenue Services as a 501 C(3) charitable organization.

The program is headquartered in the City of Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department.  During the 2011 holiday season, Cowboy Santas provided toys for more than 12,500 children from more than 5,000 families.  Families must have income at or below 150% of the Federal Income Guidelines and children must be 12 years old or under.  More information is available at CowboySantas.org.

Texas Rangers 20-Game Ticket Plans for the 2013 season go on sale today. Fans can choose from three 20-Game Plan schedules or can select their own games with a Fan’s Choice 20. The 20-Game Plans are available in nine seating areas and start at only $180.00. 20-Game Plan holders qualify for season ticket holder benefits and receive postseason priority.
