ARLINGTON -- Pitcher Yu Darvish has been named Rangers 2012 Rookie of the Year in voting by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
Darvish was 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA in 29 starts. He struck out 221 in 191 innings and held opponents to a .221 batting average. He was only the second rookie pitcher in American League history with at least 16 wins and 210 strikeouts, joining Herb Score of the 1955 Indians.
He finished third in the AL Rookie of the Year voting behind Angels outfielder Mike Trout and Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.
Darvish, Rangers Player of the Year Adrian Beltre and Rangers Pitcher of the Year Matt Harrison will be among the award recipients at the 2013 Texas Rangers Dr Pepper Awards Show, which will be held in conjunction with Texas Rangers Fan Fest on Friday, Jan. 11 at the Arlington Convention Center. The first Rangers Hot Stove Event will be held Thursday from 4-9 p.m. CT in the Captain Morgan Club at the Ballpark in Arlington. The Hot Stove Event is open free of charge to all fans. Rangers pitcher Tanner Scheppers, coach Jackie Moore, former Rangers third baseman and Frisco RoughRiders manager Steve Buechele and team television announcers Steve Busby and Tom Grieve will be on hand to sign autographs from 6-7 p.m.
