TEMPE, Ariz. -- Behind Kaleb Cowart and Garrett Richards, the Angels left their spring home on a high note with Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

Richards, a right-handed reliever, continued his strong Spring Training with 2 1/3 shutout innings. He allowed three hits, struck out two and lowered his spring ERA to 1.62.

Opposite Richards, Brad Mills turned in a solid outing for the Rangers. The left-hander began camp with the Angels and was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on Sunday. In four innings, Mills allowed one run and four hits, while striking out three.

"He had good secondary stuff, he just needs to command his fastball better," Rangers manager Ron Washington said.

The Rangers opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, when Lance Berkman and Adrian Beltre delivered RBI hits off of Jerome Williams for a 2-0 lead.

The Angels scored three times in the sixth and also scored in the third and seventh innings.

Non-roster invitee Luis Rodriguez got the Angels on the board with an RBI double in the third, but Cowart had the big blow with a two-run go-ahead double in the sixth.

Cowart finished 2-for-2, while Beltre had two hits for the Rangers.

Ernesto Frieri pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the Angels.

"That's the best [Frieri] has looked this Spring," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

Up next for the Rangers: The Rangers have a Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks on Thursday at 3:05 p.m. CT in Surprise, Ariz., and an exhibition game against the Mexico City Diablos at 7:05 p.m. CT that evening at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The Rangers' big league team will be at the Ballpark and Yu Darvish will pitch against the Diablos on MLB.TV. The Rangers defeated the Diablos, 13-4, last season. The game in Surprise will involve Minor Leaguers, with Jerad Eickhoff slated to start for the Rangers.
