Texas Rangers trade LHP Jeff Beliveau to Tampa Bay for cash considerations

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has traded left-handed pitcher Jeff Beliveau to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations.

Beliveau, who had been on option at Triple-A Round Rock, was designated for assignment on April 8 to make room for catcher Robinson Chirinos, who was acquired that day from Tampa Bay, on the 40-man roster.

Chirinos had been designated for assignment on March 31 when the Rays set their Opening Day roster.  He was optioned to Round Rock at the time of last week's trade.

Beliveau (pronounced bell-eh-VOH) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings on April 7 vs. Omaha in his only appearance of the season for Round Rock. He was acquired off waivers from the Chicago Cubs on December 21, 2012.

With the transaction, the Rangers still have 39 players on their major league roster.
