Rangers recall Josh Lindblom; Derek Lowe designated for assignment

|

The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club recalled right-handed pitcher Josh Lindblom (#25) - pronounced LIND-bluhm - from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room on the active roster for Lindblom, the club has designated right-handed pitcher Derek Lowe for assignment.

Lindblom, 25, will be making his Rangers and American League debut in his first career start tonight against Oakland. He has spent the entire season with Round Rock (AAA), going 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA (10 ER/43.1 IP) in 8 games/7 starts for the Express. Pacific Coast League opponents have batted just .173 (27-156). His last Triple-A outing came May 12 at Tucson (6.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R-ER). He went 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA (7 ER/10.1 IP) over 9 appearances in spring training.

Lindblom was acquired with right-handed pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla in exchange for infielder Michael Young on December 9, 2012. In his major league career, Lindblom has gone 4-5 with a 3.31 ERA (37 ER/100.2 IP) over 101 appearances, all in relief, with Los Angeles-NL and Philadelphia in 2011-12.

Lowe signed by Texas to a minor league contract on March 6 and made the team's Opening Day roster. In 9 relief appearances with the Rangers, Lowe has allowed 13 runs/earned runs over 13.0 innings. The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release, or outright Lowe to the minor leagues.

With these moves, the Rangers now have 38 players on the club's 40-man roster.
