The Rangers placed veteran right-hander Derek Lowe on unconditional release waivers and signed infielder Mark Teahen to a Minor League contract Thursday.

Lowe was designated for assignment Monday to make room for pitcher Josh Lindblom. Lowe went 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA in nine appearances.

Teahen, 31, will work out in Surprise, Ariz., on Thursday and will join Triple-A Round Rock in Memphis on Friday. He played 22 games with the D-backs' Triple-A Reno affiliate this season and hit .211 in 71 at-bats.

Teahen was traded to the Reds on May 1, but the transaction fell through due to a left shoulder strain, and he was placed on the disabled list. He was released Monday and hasn't played since April 30.

Teahen has played 831 career games, but he hasn't appeared in a Major League game since Sept. 28, 2011, with the Blue Jays. He has a .264 career average with 67 home runs and 332 RBIs with the Royals, White Sox and Blue Jays.
