Texas Rangers place OF Craig Gentry on 15-day disabled list

|

St. Louis, Missouri - The Texas Rangers today announced that outfielder Craig Gentry has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 21, with a non-displaced fracture of his left hand.

To replace Gentry on the roster, Texas has recalled outfielder Engel Beltre (#43) from Triple-A Round Rock. Beltre will be in uniform for tonight's game in St. Louis.

Gentry was hit in the left hand by a pitch on June 18 versus Oakland and was bothered by pain in the hand the last few days. An MRI taken on Saturday revealed the fracture. He is batting .216 with one homer and 9 RBI in 51 games for the Rangers this season.

Beltre, who will be seeking to make his major league debut, is batting .300 (88-293) with 4 HR and 21 RBI in 72 games for the Express this season, all starts in centerfield. He leads the club in runs scored (44) and is second in hits, total bases (119), and stolen bases (13). The lefthanded batter is batting .515 (17-33) with 2 homers and 6 RBI in his last 7 games. He was 3-for-4 in Round Rock's 9-5 win over Albuquerque on Saturday.

Acquired from Boston on July 31, 2007, the 23-year-old Beltre is in his 7th pro season. He played for Spain in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Beltre was in his first season at Round Rock after leading the Texas League in at bats (564) and triples (17) at Frisco in 2012.
