Rangers sign INF Brendan Harris to Minors contract

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has signed infielder Brendan Harris to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock. He will not go on the 40-man roster.

Harris, who turns 33 on Monday, will be with his third organization this season. He was released from a minor league contract with the Yankees earlier today after signing with New York-AL on July 26. Harris began the year with the Los Angeles Angels and was a member of the club's Opening Day roster before he was designated for assignment on July 20. He was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on July 23, but refused the assignment and elected free agency.

Harris batted .206 (22-107) with 4 home runs and 9 RBI in 44 games with the Angels this season. He saw action at every infield position with one game in left field, making starts at shortstop (17), first base (4), third base (4), and second base (2). His only minor league action this season came with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he batted .233 (17-73) with one home run and 4 RBI in 22 contests. Harris is a career .256 hitter over 529 big league games with Chicago-NL (2004), Montreal/Washington (2004-06), Cincinnati (2006), Tampa Bay (2007), Minnesota (2008-10), and Los Angeles-AL (2013).
