Rangers acquire LHP Edwar Cabrera on waiver claim from Colorado

|

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has claimed left-handed pitcher Edwar Cabrera on waivers from the Colorado Rockies. Cabrera, who had been on the Rockies' 60-day disabled list, has been transferred to the Rangers' 60-day disabled list.

Cabrera, who turns 26 on Sunday, did not pitch this past season due to a shoulder injury. He had surgery on his left shoulder on July 10, 2013. He made 2 starts for the Rockies in 2012, his only major league action to date, losing both outings. Cabrera has just 8 career outings above the Double-A level. Since signing as a free agent in 2008, he has gone 26-21 with a 3.13 ERA (174 ER/501.0 IP) in his minor league career. He has averaged 11.1 strikeouts per 9 innings in the minors with a 1.140 WHIP figure, allowing less than one home run per 9. The Dominican Republic native has spent his entire career in the Rockies organization.

With this move, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster, as well as 3 pitchers on the club's 60-day disabled list (Cabrera, Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison).
