Veteran free-agent infielder Michael Young, a seven-time All-Star, is "strongly considering retirement" rather than returning for a 15th big league season, according to a tweet from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and MLB Network.

Rosenthal reported that while four teams have expressed interest in Young and the 37-year-old has received "decent offers," he also wants to spend more time with his wife and three sons.

After 13 years with the Rangers, Young spent last season with the Phillies and Dodgers, hitting .279/.335/.395 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs in 147 games. He began the year as Philadelphia's everyday third baseman, but he wound up as a part-time starter and pinch-hitter after an Aug. 31 trade to Los Angeles.

Once a second baseman and shortstop for the Rangers, Young has spent most of the past few seasons split between third base, first base and designated hitter. He still carries a .300 career average, along with 2,375 hits, and could provide a lift for a team that needs a right-handed bat for its infield.

Reports earlier this offseason had Young tied with the Yankees and Brewers, among others.
