SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Right-handed reliever Nate Adcock felt numbness in the fingers on his throwing hand during his outing Sunday, and the Rangers have shut him down until he can be examined by team physician Keith Meister this weekend.

Adcock allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning against the White Sox on Sunday and picked up the loss in a 9-7 defeat. Adcock complained of the numbness to the team shortly after he was removed from the game, according to assistant general manager Thad Levine.

"We're just having him shut down right now," Levine said. "Meister will be back this weekend, and we'll have him be fully evaluated at that point to see if there's anything significant to those symptoms."

The 26-year-old hasn't pitched at the Major League level since 2012, when he posted a 2.34 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP in 12 appearances for the Royals. In addition to Sunday's rough outing, Adcock also allowed two runs on three hits against Kansas City on Friday. He is competing for one of Texas' final bullpen spots.

In other injury developments, manager Ron Washington is hopeful shortstop Elvis Andrus can return to the lineup on Thursday. Andrus hasn't played since Friday because of flexor tendinitis in his right arm, which the Rangers say is typical spring soreness.

Meanwhile, catcher Geovany Soto, who had surgery to have a small bone in his left foot removed, has begun hitting off a tee and taking soft toss. Mid-March remains the target return date for Soto.
