Joey Gallo, the Minors' reigning home run champion, is once again alone atop the Minor League leaderboard. He hit two homers Wednesday for Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach, and he now has 12 this season.
Gallo led the Minor Leagues with 40 home runs last year. Entering Wednesday, he was tied at 10 home runs with Jon Singleton, the Astros' No. 4 prospect, and J.D. Martinez, who was recently called up by the Tigers.
Gallo, the Rangers' No. 5 prospect and No. 85 overall, broke the three-way tie with a home run to lead off the second inning. He added another solo homer in the eighth inning and finished the day 2-for-3 with two walks in Myrtle Beach's 5-4 victory at Winston-Salem. It was his third multihomer game of the season.
In 31 games this season, Gallo is hitting .327/.431/.745. He has drawn 23 walks and struck out 38 times.
Also in Wednesday's victory, Jorge Alfaro, the Rangers' No. 1 prospect and No. 35 overall, extended his hitting streak to six games with his sixth double of the season. Alfaro has a slash line of .279/.322/.387.
