Fundraiser sets new record for donations

|

ARLINGTON -- Just hours after the Rangers defeated the Blue Jays, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon to snap a four-game losing streak, the players gathered to compete again in front of a record crowd.

But this time the athletes traded in their baseball attire for a "Moonlight Masquerade" theme and competed against each other in Fielders Feud and Minute to Win It challenges as part of the Texas Rangers Park Place Dealerships Triple Play Game Show Spectacular. More than 600 people attended the sold-out event, and the amount of money raised -- $725,000 -- was a record in the 12 years it's been going on. It was the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation's largest fundraiser of the year.

Those in attendance could bid on trips, and two parties each bid $16,000 for trips to the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction in July in Cooperstown, N.Y.

When the games began, the infielders and catchers defeated the outfielders in the Fielders Feud challenge. Robbie Ross Jr. and Joakim Soria beat Neal Cotts and Jason Frasor, and Colby Lewis and Shawn Tolleson in the Minute to Win It challenge.
