Third baseman Joey Gallo, the Rangers' No. 4 prospect, hit two home runs Friday, leading Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach to an 12-6 victory against Carolina. His 20 home runs this season are tied for the most in the Minor Leagues.
Gallo, ranked No. 79 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs and seven RBIs. He hit his first home run of the night in the fifth inning and then connected for a grand slam in the seventh.
Outfielder Nick Williams, the Rangers' No. 5 prospect, went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run. Jorge Alfaro, the club's No. 1 prospect, added a double and scored two runs.
After leading the Minor Leagues with 40 home runs last year, Gallo is already halfway to that mark, just two months into the season. He is tied for the Minor League-lead with Yankees' No. 20 prospect Peter O'Brien, who also homered Friday.
Gallo's home runs have come in bunches this season. He has two three-homer games and has hit 12 of his home runs in five games.
Gallo has been more than just a home-run hitter this season. He leads the Carolina League in on-base percentage (.457), slugging percentage (.750), runs (49), RBIs (47) and walks (45). His .320 batting average ranks third.
