Rangers make 40 selections in 2014 Draft

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers selected 30 players today on the final day of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, which included rounds 11 through 40.

The Rangers selected 40 players overall in this year's draft. The 40 players include 27 pitchers (22 right-handed, 5 left-handed), 5 outfielders, 6 infielders, and 2 catchers. Texas selected 26 college players and made 14 high school picks. Some notable Rangers picks on the final day of the draft:

  • In the 21st round, the club selected left-handed pitcher Sterling Wynn from McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. Wynn was also selected by the club in the 36th round of the 2012 draft.
  • In the 24th round, the club selected right-handed pitcher Austin Pettibone out of the University of California-Santa Barbara. Pettibone is the brother of current Philadelphia Phillies right-handed pitcher Jonathan Pettibone. His father, Jay, was a 30th-round selection of the Rangers in the 1979 draft, and made 4 starts for the Minnesota Twins in 1983.
