Prospects Brinson, Mazara homer twice for Hickory

Outfielders Lewis Brinson and Nomar Mazara, the Rangers' Nos. 6 and 7 prospects, both hit two home runs Wednesday to lead Class A Hickory to a 5-1 victory at West Virginia.

With Mazara batting fourth and Brinson fifth in the Crawdads lineup, the pair hit back-to-back homers off Power starter Buddy Borden in the second inning. Brinson led off the fourth inning with a home run in his second plate appearance of the night and Mazara launched his second blast in the sixth inning.

Both Brinson and Mazara finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a strikeout. Ryan Cordell, the third member of Hickory's outfield, also homered in the victory.

Brinson has been hampered by leg injuries in the first half this season and spent most of May and part of June on the disabled list. Since returning to action June 23, however, he has been locked in at the plate. In 10 games, he is hitting .436/.500/1.026 with seven home runs, 15 runs and 11 RBIs. He also has a 12-game hitting streak that dates back to June 8, before his second stint on the DL.

Overall this season, Brinson is hitting .333/.404/.580 with 10 home runs in 41 games. Mazara is hitting .257/.339/.447 and is tied for third in the South Atlantic League with 12 home runs in 79 games.
