Rangers at the plate: Nelson Cruz was 1-for-2 with an RBI double and a walk. David Murphy was 1-for-2 and was hit by a pitch. Vladimir Guerrero was 0-for-3 and Michael Young was 0-for-2 before retiring for the day. Taylor Teagarden was 0-for-2 with two strikeouts.Royals at the plate: Billy Butler was 1-for-3 with an RBI double in the first inning. Rick Ankiel tripled to left-center in the third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alberto Callaspo.
Gil Meche, who'll follow Greinke in the season-opening rotation against the Tigers, follows him against the Rangers to make Saturday's start. The Royals also plan to use right-hander Aaron Crow, their first-round Draft choice last year. Crow has minimal pro experience -- 17 innings in 2008-09 for the independent Fort Worth Cats and four starts (0-2, 5.87 ERA) last year in the Arizona Fall League. Also making his KC debut will be left-hander Edgar Osuna, the Rule 5 Draft choice from the Braves.
