Kela's absence opens door for Rodriguez

The Rangers are going to play it conservative with right-handed reliever Keone Kela, who is on the disabled list with a sore right shoulder for the second time this season. Kela has not resumed throwing since he went on the DL on Aug. 8.

Kela returns to DL with sore right shoulder

Less than three weeks removed from coming off the disabled list after battling right shoulder soreness, Keone Kela headed back to the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday, retroactive to Saturday, with the same injury. The Rangers purchased the contract of Ricky Rodriguez from Double-A Frisco in a corresponding move.

Keone Cole Kela…participated in Rangers winter caravan over the offseason…was 2-2 with a 2.07 ERA and 2 saves over 13 games/4 starts for Everett (WA) Community College in 2012…was a fire science major at Everett…selected by Seattle in the 29th round of the 2011 June draft out of Chief Sealth (WA) International High School, but did not sign…was WSBCA All-State and Metro League-Co-MVP selections as a senior at Chief Sealth.
